Before taking the GMAT online exam, you are responsible for:
- reviewing the Exam Policies to understand testing rules and avoid policy violations that may result in your appointment being terminated or your score being canceled
- ensuring the name on your registration exactly matches the ID you will present on exam day
- confirming your ID meets all ID requirements
- downloading and installing the secure browser
- running the system check before exam day
- ensuring you have a stable internet connection
- confirming your computer meets all technical requirements
- preparing your testing area and removing prohibited items
- arriving 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete check-in
Mobile hotspots and internet tethering are not permitted.
Failure to meet these requirements may prevent you from starting or completing your exam.
System and Equipment Requirements
You must use a computer that meets the current minimum system requirements for the GMAT online exam.
This includes:
- a supported operating system
- a supported web browser
- a functioning webcam and microphone
- a stable internet connection
You must also install the required secure browser before your appointment.
Work or school computers may prevent the exam platform from functioning correctly due to:
- administrative restrictions
- security software
- VPNs
- firewalls
You should complete the system test before exam day using the same:
- computer
- internet connection
- testing location
you plan to use for your exam.
Testing Environment Requirements
You must test alone in a private indoor location.
Your testing area must:
- be quiet and free from interruptions
- have adequate lighting
- contain a clear desk and workspace
- allow your face and workspace to remain visible during the exam

Whiteboard Requirements
You may use:
- one erasable whiteboard no larger than 12 x 20 inches (30 x 50 cm) that is not attached to a wall or surface
- up to two dry erase markers
- one whiteboard eraser
Paper, notebooks, and standard writing pads are not permitted during the online exam.
You will be asked to erase and show your whiteboard:
- at the beginning of the exam
- before your scheduled break
- at the end of the exam

External Monitor Policy
Multiple active displays are not permitted.
If you use:
- a laptop connected to an external monitor
or - a desktop computer with multiple monitors
all additional monitors must be disconnected before starting your exam.
Headphones and Audio Devices
Headphones, earbuds, and other listening devices are not permitted during the exam.
Your computer speakers and microphone must remain enabled throughout the appointment.
Breaks During the Exam
The GMAT online exam includes one optional break.
You may leave your workspace during the scheduled break only.
Unsanctioned breaks or leaving the camera view at other times may result in your exam being terminated.
Proctor Monitoring
Your exam session will be monitored by a live proctor and may also be reviewed after testing.
The proctor may:
- ask you to adjust your camera
- request additional room scans
- ask you to remove prohibited items
- pause or terminate the exam if a policy violation is observed
You must follow all proctor instructions before and during your exam.
Technical Issues During the Exam
If you experience a technical issue during your appointment:
- notify the proctor immediately using the available chat or audio tools
- follow the proctor’s troubleshooting instructions
